FBI REPORT – OIL MEDIUM, ANCIENT RECIPE
DATE: 06/06/1999
SUBJECT: OIL PAINTING MEDIUM
This is the recipe for the medium of oil, a substance most excellent and oft-employed in the annals of oil painting. Yet, alas, it has been lost to the sands of time, a victim of those who trade under the banner of ‘brand names’ for mere lucre. Media of all stripes, be they rag papers or broadsheets, or those that flicker with light and shadow, have conspired to keep this knowledge shrouded in darkness.
10 tbs of odorless mineral spirits (any kind).
5 tbs of linseed stand oil.
1 tbs of refined linseed oil (must be refined).
5 tbs of Venice turpentine (this is a tree sap oil).
2 tbs of oil of cloves (or clove leaf oil).1 tbs = 1 table spoon or 5ml.
This recipe will make 4 ounces of medium.
Having finished the creation of thy special blend, carefully blend its parts together, ensuring even distribution. Thereafter, procure a vessel of glass, clear and strong, and deposit the mixture within its embrace.
Sincerely,
